Application of 6-PIN Magnetic Connectors in Coffee Machines

Last year, our team took on a charging connection project for a high-end home espresso machine. The core requirement was to optimize the detachable connection solution. The coffee machine's cup holder not only holds the cup but also integrates a cup temperature sensor, requiring simultaneous power transmission and two signal transmissions. Furthermore, users inevitably get the cup holder wet when washing it, easily leading to water stains and coffee grounds accumulating in the terminal gaps. Based on the client's needs, we provided a 6-PIN magnetic connection solution.

The highlight of this solution is the magnetic female connector, which boasts an IP68 protection rating. For example, cup holders are often directly rinsed during washing, and some users even briefly soak them. This magnetic female connector, after applying waterproof adhesive, can be completely submerged in water for 20 minutes. Moreover, the female connector's magnetic positioning is exceptionally precise, using a neodymium iron boron magnet array. Simply align the cup holder with the base, and it automatically snaps into place within 0.1 seconds, ensuring perfect alignment even in poor visibility, completely solving the pain point of incorrect plugging and unplugging.

We also made targeted optimizations to the contact performance. Considering the slight vibrations that coffee machines experience during operation and their long-term exposure to humid and hot environments, the contacts are thickly gold-plated, with a salt spray resistance exceeding 72 hours and a contact resistance below 50mΩ. This ensures stable signal transmission while preventing oxidation.

The combination of a 6-pin magnetic male connector and an IP68 female connector offers a lifespan of over 10,000 cycles, making it ideal for coffee machine applications requiring frequent disassembly and reassembly.
