OEM / ODM Questions, Answered
Q: What is the minimum order quantity for custom pogo pins?
A: Our standard production MOQ for custom pogo pins is 1,000 pcs. For sample evaluation, MOQ starts at just 5 pcs. We serve both hardware startups at the prototyping stage and enterprise OEMs placing large recurring orders. If your volume requirement falls below the standard production MOQ, reach out to discuss a low-volume or phased arrangement.
Q: Can you manufacture a custom pogo pin contact pad with a specific surface finish?
A: Surface finish is one of the most consequential design choices for a pogo pin contact pad, and the right answer depends on your mating cycle target. We support ENIG (0.05–0.12 μm Au per IPC-4552), OSP, HASL (lead-free), and hard gold (0.38–0.76 μm per AMS 2422). For high-cycle environments - common in pogo pin charging docks that see thousands of insertions - cobalt-hardened hard gold with a minimum Knoop hardness of 130 HK is the correct choice. XRF thickness measurement certificates ship with every pogo pin contact pad sample.
Q: Do you supply high current magnetic connectors for industrial charging applications?
A: High current is one of the most common OEM requests we handle, and the right spec depends on your thermal management strategy. Our high current magnetic connector series handles up to 20 A continuous (passive cooling) and 30 A peak - we customize contact cross-section, copper alloy grade, and plating thickness to hit your specific thermal budget and contact resistance target. These connectors are deployed in industrial handheld equipment, EV accessories, medical carts, and ruggedized pogo pin charging stations where USB-C or standard connectors fall short on current or durability.
Q: What is the lead time for a custom pogo cable assembly?
A: Standard pogo cable assembly samples are ready in 5-10 working days from tooling approval. An express 3-day turnaround is available for an additional charge. Mass production of pogo cable assemblies runs 15–30 days from sample approval. We support both USB-standard and fully custom pin-out configurations, with overmolded or clamshell strain relief options.
Q: Do you protect our IP and design files under NDA?
A: IP protection is built into our process from the first file transfer. We sign a mutual NDA before any engineering information is exchanged. All custom tooling - including injection mold tools, stamping dies, and turning fixtures - is registered under your company account and will never be used for any third-party product at any time. Full tooling ownership transfer documentation is available upon production order completion and final payment.
Q: Are your pogo pins and connectors RoHS 3 and REACH compliant?
A: All products manufactured at our pogo pins factory fully comply with RoHS 3 (EU Directive 2015/863) and REACH SVHC substance restrictions. Material declarations per IEC 62321, XRF test reports, and third-party laboratory certificates are available upon request for every product line, including pogo pins, pogo pin contact pads, and high current magnetic connectors.
Q: Can I receive 3D CAD files before committing to a production order?
A: CAD files come standard with every sample order, not as an afterthought. After NDA execution and sample order confirmation, we supply STEP / IGES 3D models and fully annotated DWG 2D drawings for your mechanical and PCB integration teams. Files are typically delivered alongside or prior to first article samples, allowing your board layout and mechanical design to progress in parallel with sample evaluation - cutting your overall time to first prototype build.
Q: What is the difference between hard gold and ENIG plating for pogo pins?
A: Hard gold lasts longer under repeated mechanical contact; ENIG is optimised for solderability. Hard gold (per AMS 2422) deposits cobalt-hardened gold at 0.38–0.76 μm with a Knoop hardness of 130–200 HK - the correct choice for pogo pin contact pads and pogo pins in charging docks that see thousands of mating cycles. ENIG (per IPC-4552) deposits a thinner gold layer (0.05–0.12 μm) over electroless nickel, optimised for flat solderable surfaces rather than wear resistance. If your pogo pin contact pad will be reflow-soldered to the PCB and does not experience heavy mating contact, ENIG is sufficient and costs less. When in doubt, we recommend hard gold for any application involving repeated mechanical mating.
Q: How much current can a single pogo pin carry?
A: It depends on the barrel diameter, plating thickness, and ambient temperature. A standard pogo pin in the 0.6–2.0 mm diameter range carries 0.5–5 A continuously. Larger-diameter pogo pins (2.0–5.0 mm) with heavy gold plating and low-resistance barrel alloy can handle 5–30 A per pin. For higher current requirements - particularly in pogo pin charging stations and industrial equipment - our high current magnetic connector range distributes current across multiple contact points to reach 30–60 A while managing heat. Share your target current, operating voltage, and duty cycle with us and we'll recommend the right contact geometry and plating stack.
